Do you need to get away from the stress of campus? Do you want to take a moment to reflect on your college experience so far? Do you like PB&J and tortillas?!
…then DO WOOP!!!!!! You can fill out the interest form here.
The purpose of going on a WOOP trip is to give participants and leaders alike the opportunity to leave behind the crowded, fast-paced, overstimulating campus environment for a couple of days to meet new people, enjoy the simplicity & beauty of the wilderness, and reflect upon their Harvard experience together. This program is run through HOC, with leaders trained by both the Harvard First-Year Outdoor Program (FOP) and HOC.
Day trips will leave on Saturday or Sunday in the early morning, spend the day in the backcountry and return to campus the same night.
Overnight Trips will leave on either Friday or Saturday in the late morning or early afternoon, spend a night in the backcountry, hike and return to campus the following night.
Trip participants will be asked to commit to a meeting on the Wednesday night before the trip leaves, where gear requirements and other details will be reviewed.
If you do not have gear, WE WILL WORK WITH YOU TO PROVIDE IT AT LITTLE TO NO COST!
No experience in the outdoors is necessary! WOOP leaders are trained in Wilderness First Aid and all necessary skills.
We expect trip cost to be $25 or $30 to cover transportation, though we have not been able to finalize the exact number. If this number makes you hesitate at all, HOC provides financial aid. We do not want cost to dissuade anyone, so please let us know if you need financial aid. We will require payment in full on the Wednesday before trips leave. Checks or cash are acceptable.
